Mt. Prospect Partnership (MPP) Frequently Asked Questions

The Mt. Prospect Partnership (MPP) is the designated District Management Corporation for the Mt. Prospect Avenue Neighborhood Improvement District, located in Newark, New Jersey. Established in 2007, MPP manages the Mt. Prospect business district in the city’s historic North Ward—from Bloomfield Avenue to the Belleville border.

MPP works to revitalize and maintain the Mt. Prospect Avenue commercial corridor by providing high-impact services and programming that support local businesses and enhance the neighborhood’s quality of life. Key areas of focus include:

  • Sanitation & Maintenance: Daily sidewalk sweeping, trash removal, graffiti cleanup, and overall corridor upkeep
  • Beautification & Placemaking: Seasonal plantings, pole banners, weed-whacking, and district improvements
  • Events & Community Engagement: Including the Annual Winter Parade and other public programming
  • Business Support: Promotions, grants, and partnerships that help businesses thrive
  • Pedestrian Safety & Access Improvements: Streetscape upgrades and accessibility efforts to support foot traffic

No. MPP is an independent nonprofit organization, although it works closely with the City of Newark and community partners like the Forest Hill Community Association. The Partnership is governed by a volunteer board made up of local stakeholders.

MPP is a coalition of commercial property owners, business owners, residents, and community organizations dedicated to fostering a stable and healthy neighborhood.

Funding for MPP comes from a special assessment paid by commercial property owners within the district boundaries. These funds are reinvested into programs and services that directly support the corridor.

MPP offers a Storefront/Façade Grant to eligible businesses within the district to support exterior improvements such as signage, painting, or lighting. Visit the Funding Opportunities tab on our website for more details.
