Services

Mt. Prospect Partnership is happy to provide a range of services to support the success of the Mt. Prospect Avenue Neighborhood Improvement District

Placemaking & Beautification

Our District Landscaping & Beautification efforts include seasonal planting programs, landscaping services, street pole banners and outdoor décor to maintain a beautified district. We prioritize maintaining a district that is aesthetically pleasing to support public engagement in local visitation and commerce. New plantings are installed each Fall and Spring. New banner systems are also implemented twice throughout the year. Our ‘Open for Business’ banner system was introduced in the district in 2021 to support the reopening and ongoing activities of businesses in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Quality of Life & Outdoor Services

Our work supports the beautification and ongoing economic vitality of the district through seasonal planting, outdoor decor, sanitation, public safety and activation. Our 7-day per week supplemental maintenance and sanitation program which includes daily street sweeping, maintenance of public amenities, trash collection, graffiti removal, daily trash collection and weekly pressure washing. We have included the disinfection of high-touch areas like trash cans, mail boxes, traffic signal buttons, and bus stops since the inception of the COVID-19 pandemic. To address safety concerns in the district, we have established a supplemental policing program in partnership with the Essex County Sheriff’s Office. The daily detail includes vehicular patrols and foot patrols to address quality-of-life issues in the area.

Business Promotion

MPP promotes local businesses through a dynamic mix of social media marketing and event integration that keeps our district vibrant and connected. Through digital features, short-form videos, and our Small Business Spotlight series, we highlight storefronts across Instagram and Facebook—sharing their stories and driving community engagement. Businesses are also featured in major district events like the Holiday Light Parade and the Annual Car & Halloween Parade, participating through vendor activations, themed promotions, and on-site programming. This consistent, year-round approach ensures our small businesses remain visible, supported, and celebrated throughout the district. Our Mount Prospect Profiles series further deepens this connection by spotlighting the people behind the businesses—sharing their stories, history, and impact within the community.

Outdoor Activation

Year-round, the Mt. Prospect Partnership turns Mount Prospect Avenue into an open-air destination with signature in-person events—the Classic Car Show, Halloween Parade, and Holiday Light Parade with its tree-lighting and House-Decorating Contest—that draw crowds, boost foot traffic for local merchants, and spark neighborhood pride. Seasonal touches keep the corridor inviting between major celebrations: American flags line the avenue on patriotic holidays, fresh winter décor brightens storefronts, and our rapid-response crews handle snow removal overnight to keep curbs and parking accessible. Together, these activations ensure the district stays vibrant, welcoming, and business-friendly in every season.

Capital Planning

In October of 2021, the Mt. Prospect Partnership began the process of proposing streetscape improvements to Mt. Prospect Avenue through the Mt. Prospect Capital Plan. The goal of this project was to increase pedestrian safety and traffic-calming. The plan also seeks to increase public seating, place branding and enhance the unique character of the historic Mt. Prospect neighborhood. MPP engaged Arterial Streets to conduct the plan and is currently in the process of preparing design concepts. Mt. Prospect Partnership is eager to move the Capital Plan forward and identify further opportunities to make physical improvements to the district to increase safety and promote pedestrian traffic.
